# Caulker loan to be cancelled by Southampton

Southampton are [reportedly](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-loan-transfer-signing-steven-7095220?) set to terminate the season long loan of Steven Caulker from QPR after the England international failed to make an impression when called upon for Saints.

Another factor in the potential termination of Caulker’s loan is the long awaited return of fans favourite Florin Gardos from a knee injury that has kept him out for five months and counting.

This would mean that Caulker is to fall even further down the pecking order upon Gardos’ return to action, leading to a huge lack of playing time for the defender.

Although there have been little chances to see Caulker in action, the 24-year-old has been fairly poor on most occasions for Saints and will always be behind captain Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk in Ronald Koeman’s plans.

However, Premier League clubs have shown some interest in the QPR defender, with a host of teams looking to bolster their defence with the second half of the season in mind such as Norwich, Sunderland and high-flying Crystal Palace.

Caulker has made just three Premier League appearances for Southampton in his tenure at the club so far.
