# Koeman not surprised at tough season

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has [admitted](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/koeman-we-knew-this-could-be-a-difficult-season) that he was expecting this season to be a far more difficult than last season’s extremely successful campaign.

A tough season was always in the offing after failing to sign the outstanding Toby Alderweireld on a permanent basis, as well as losing right-back Nathaniel Clyne and the heart of the midfield, Morgan Schneiderlin.

Saints are currently struggling in the Premier League, despite sitting in 12th place, without a win in six consecutive games and finding goals hard to come by.

> It’s difficult for the players because we have the experience from last year on how nice it can be. We knew beforehand it could be a difficult season, but still it’s not too late. We know we need a win. The best medicine is winning.

Koeman has also pointed out the lack of confidence that his side are currently showing, stating that it has had a considerable effect on their recent performances and the results that come with them.

> We had a bad run last year, but not like this one. It means maybe a little bit of lack in confidence, in belief.

Southampton and Koeman will hope that their fortunes are to change on Boxing Day as they gear up to face in-form Arsenal at St. Mary’s.
