# Nicholas predicts Saints win over Liverpool

Southampton face Liverpool tomorrow at St.Mary’s in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup and SkySports pundit Charlie Nicholas has [predicted a Saints win](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12090/10085314/charlie-nicholas-backs-southampton-to-oust-liverpool-in-his-capital-one-cup-predictions).

The Scotsman, who played for Arsenal during his playing career, has said that Southampton will be boosted by the returning Graziano Pelle and have what it takes to beat Liverpool and move through to the semi-final.

The two sides have already met during this season already; playing at Anfield in the Premier League. In that fixture it was a 1-1 draw after Sadio Mane cancelled out Christian Benteke’s opener before the Senegal international was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Saints certainly showed they have what it takes to compete with Liverpool and now being the home team; could grind out the win and take another huge step towards Wembley in making it into the last four.

Here is what Charlie Nicholas had to say in the build-up to the game:

> Well this one really is the pick of the draw. Southampton have been a bit disappointing, yes, but they didn’t play badly at Manchester City according to Merse.

> They missed Graziano Pelle and will have him back against Liverpool. Ronald Koeman will be another one thinking why can’t we have a go at winning this? They may not have the depth of some teams but they have a very good side.

> Then we have the resurgence under Jurgen Klopp and everyone going crazy because they’re up to sixth in the Premier League.

> It was another grind at home against Swansea and they’ll probably prefer being able to play on the counter-attack again here. Koeman will say ‘we’re at home, we’ll play our game’ and I think they’ll win this one.

He then went on to predict a 3-1 win for Southampton. What would you score prediction be?
