Southampton captain Jose Fonte has been ruled out of the club’s quarter-final Capital One Cup tie against Liverpool tomorrow night.
Saints manager Ronald Koeman has ruled the Portuguese international defender out of the game, despite having previously stated that he would be fit in time for the clash on SkySports.
Fonte was forced off in Southampton’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City but after the game Koeman said that it was precautionary and nothing to worry about. However, the injury has clearly worsened since that point and is now bad enough that he misses tomorrow’s game.

Jose Fonte is not available for tomorrow.
Steven Caulker is expected to come in and play alongside Virgil Van Dijk for the big clash as Saints will look to progress to the semi-finals.
On a more positive note, Koeman has said that Fonte should be available for Southampton’s clash with Aston Villa on Saturday and that the Saints have no other injuries to worry over going into the big clash.
We have good hope that he will be fit for the Saturday game. That is a good option, not tomorrow. No other injuries.
