# Fonte fit for Liverpool clash as Koeman confirms fitness

Southampton fans will be delighted to hear that captain Jose Fonte [will be fit](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/14110582.Fonte_gives_Southampton_huge_fitness_boost/?ref=rss) to play against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup quarter-final this coming week.

Saints lost 3-1 away to Manchester City, goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Alexandar Kolarov gave the home side all three points as Shane Long also scored a consolation goal for the away side.

The defeat also means that Southampton’s incredible unbeaten away record this season comes to an end as Manchester City become the first home side to beat Ronald Koeman’s men so far this season.

The central defender was hauled off during the game to be replaced by Steven Caulker and left many fans worrying about his availability for their next match, and upcoming ones.

However, Koeman has been quick to rid any bad thoughts as he confirms that there is no serious injury to the skipper and he is fine:

> Jose is ok now.

> It takes too long a time to come back on the pitch and so we changed.
