# New injury boost for Rodriguez

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez has been given fresh hope over his return to first-team football after undergoing a successful operation on his foot.

It was expected that the England international was to be out for up to eight weeks with the surgery in mind, with a return in mid-January in the offing, however it looks as though Rodriguez will be back in action faster than first feared.

Sky Sports News HQ have [reported](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/10078137/southamptons-jay-rodriguez-hoping-to-return-ahead-of-schedule-after-surgery) that The Saints striker is feeling a lot more positive and is remaining hopeful after his operation was considered a successful one.

The 25-year-old has not featured for Ronald Koeman’s side since mid-October as injuries continue to plague his chances at reviving his playing career, but his potentially quicker return is certain to be a boost for the Dutchman who already has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal.

Rodriguez signed a five-year-deal with the club in the summer and will hope to make a late impact in the campaign for The Saints.
