# Saints tracking ex-Aston Villa defender

Southampton are thought to be [interested](https://www.clubcall.com/norwich-city/dutchman-linked-with-move-1789726.html?) in signing free agent Ron Vlaar.

The Dutch international left Aston Villa in the summer after his contract expired and he refused to sign a new deal with the Villains. He wanted to sign for Lazio in the summer but picked up an injury that meant the deal could not go through.

He is currently still recuperating from the injury and is still without a club, despite interest from several Premier League sides. Along with Southampton; Norwich and Sunderland are believed to be eyeing up the 30-year-old central defender.

He featured in over 70 Premier League matches during his time at Aston Villa and given Southampton’s lack of depth at the back, he could be a player with the experience and quality to serve as a very good option off the bench for Ronald Koeman’s men.

Would Ron Vlaar be a good addition to Southampton’s side?
