# Cedric plays as Fonte unused by Portugal

Southampton pair Cedric Soares and Jose Fonte were both in the Portugal squad coming into their games against Russia yesterday.

Cedric played the full match for his Country but Saints captain Jose Fonte was an unused substitute as Portugal succumbed to a 1-0 loss against the Russians. It was only a friendly tie as both Countries have already booked their spots at next summer’s European Championships in France.

The game had the apparent friendly, lacklustre style about it in what was a drag affair. The game was settled with just a minute to go as Roman Shirokov fired home to win the game for the home side in Krasnodar.

It was a eighth cap for the Saints right back Cedric, who has been in imperious form for the Premier League side this season and has arguably been one of the signings of the season; replacing Clyne at the South Coast club.

How good has Cedric been this season?
