Davis wants more goals for club and Country

Speaking to Southampton’s official website, midfielder Steven Davis has spoke about how much he has progressed since joining Southampton and how he wants to add to the goals that he has scored this season.

He has been at the club for three years and Davis has said how he has improved since he signed.I think I’ve progressed, definitely.

The club demands improvement, and everybody’s mentality within the team and the whole staff, whether it’s the football side or not, it’s to try and improve yourself and make the club better.

That’s something that goes well with my personality. I always want to get better, assess my own game and see how I can do things better and even off the field in terms of looking after yourself, it’s all been a good match.

Davis joined the club from Rangers in 2012 on a free transfer and has since gone on to play 130 times for Southampton in all competitions, notching just eight goals. He also has 78 caps for Northern Ireland, scoring seven goals.

His goalscoring statistics are not much to go by, but he is certainly a very good player. He has been key for club and Country in recent years and is an essential player. Two goals for Southampton and two goals for Northern Ireland this season have got Davis in the mood for more and the midfielder is hoping that he can improve on his tally.

I think it gives you confidence and belief to get in the right areas, more confident to take them.

I’ve been fortunate to be in the positions where the ball has dropped for me. Hopefully I can continue to do that.

As a midfielder you’re always striving to chip in with goals. It doesn’t always happen, but there’s no better feeling than seeing the ball hit the back of the net.
