Bertrand better than Gibbs says Alan Smith

Alan Smith has claimed that Saints left back Ryan Bertrand is a better defender than Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs.

The former Leicester City and Arsenal striker has hailed Ryan Bertrand for his England and Southampton displays and has said that he may even be better than Kieran Gibbs, who is currently battling with Bertrand for an England spot.

England are well endowed in the left back area. Despite Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw being injured, they still have Bertrand, Gibbs, Danny Rose and Aaron Creswell to potentially fill in.

It looks like it will be Ryan Bertrand who gets the nod later tonight when England face Spain in a friendly and it will be a good chance for the Saints man to prove his quality against some of the best players in the world; as he does for Southampton each week in the Premier League.

This is what Alan Smith said about the Saints star:

(Bertrand) Looked the part against Estonia in early October.

Quick and mobile, he might be a better defender than Kieran Gibbs. This match, however, should find any flaws.
