Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has spoken out about his desire to go on and earn his place in Roy Hodgson’s senior national side.
The current England’s under-21 captain has been playing fairly regularly for the Saints this season and after seeing the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier called up; Ward-Prowse believes that he can also make the step up.
A product of the famed Southampton academy, Ward-Prowse has already made over 100 competitive appearances for the Saints, despite only turning 21 the other week.
Roy Hodgson has spoken of his admiration for James Ward-Prowse before so it is not beyond the realm of possibility to see Ward-Prowse in an England squad sooner rather than later.

If he can cement a place in the Saints side and continue to play well, there is nothing to say that he won’t have a chance of being included in next summers squad for the European Championships.
Here is what Ward-Prowse had to say about wanting to make the senior side:
I was made aware of it [Hodgson’s comments] and it was very nice to see but until I’m in the squad and playing for him and the first team I can’t really settle on that,” he said.
It was nice to hear and it’s added motivation that if I can keep my performance levels for club and country I’ll make the step up.
They [Dier and Alli] are two good friends of mine, especially Eric, and they have been in fantastic form for Tottenham.
They’ve deserved their call-up and it’s inspiring and promising for me to know friends of mine and fellow team-mates are getting the opportunity.
If I can replicate my form for Southampton and continue my progress for the Under-21s hopefully that will come.
