# We can get into the top four – Fonte

Southampton captain Jose Fonte has [claimed](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/nov/08/southampton-jose-fonte-exploit-tensions-sunderland) that top four is a possibility for Southampton in the Premier League this season.

Saints are on an incredible run of form at the moment; eight games unbeaten in all competitions and unbeaten away from home all season in the Premier League. Southampton currently lay in seventh place, four points away from Manchester United in fourth place.

Leicester City also sit in third, a position that many don’t expect them to occupy for much longer, unless Jamie Vardy can continue his Messi-esque form that he has produced so far this season.

Jose Fonte and his team-mates finished seventh last season after being in the top four for a decent amount of the season but the Portuguese international has said that the top four is wide open for a new contender this season. Aided by the dramatic fall of Chelsea, who are 16th in the Premier League after 12 games.

> Liverpool and Spurs are massive clubs.

> But history and tradition does not play a part in where you finish. We don’t see ourselves as a smaller team than them. We belong in this area. We’ve already shown we can compete with anyone – and the fourth Champions League place could be open this year. We’re going to give it a real go.
