Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand has said that Southampton showed their qualities against Sunderland as they grinded out a 1-0 win at The Stadium Of Light.
It was looking at a point for Southampton that it may not have been their day after Sunderland made a number of goal-line clearances and were Saints were having all their shots blocked and saved.
However, Bertrand has said that Saints qualities eventually shone through as the England international picked up a Tadic pass and got to the by-line before being swiped down by Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila in the area, winning the penalty.

Dusan Tadic stepped up to fire the ball into the corner and give Saints the 1-0 lead that they certainly deserved and it was Bertrand again that Saints can thank for the opening goal; as they did last week when he set up Davis against Bournemouth.
Here is what Bertrand had to say after the match:
We knew it was going to be a tough place to come to and it was important that we dug in and competed and hopefully our quality came through which it did in the end.
It was a very tight game but I felt we were creating chances but perhaps our final pass let us down at times but it was important that we kept going and managed to break them with the penalty.
It is important that we keep that consistency, keep that work ethic that we showed today and hopefully it keeps going.
