Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has called suggestions that Southampton could challenge for a Champions League spot as unrealistic.
His side sits seventh in the Premier League table following their 1-0 win over struggling Sunderland yesterday at The Stadium Of Light, however, anything much higher in the league for Southampton may be too far out of their reach this season, or so Koeman thinks.
Koeman’s men are just four points away from fourth spot after Dusan Tadic’s penalty gave Saints the win yesterday and they have a decent run of fixtures ahead of them to get points on the board and try to push on.

Southampton occupied a top-four spot at times last season in the Premier League but ended up finishing seventh, a position that is a more realistic and achievable goal for Ronald Koeman and his team this season.
No, no, no. Top four? It’s maybe too difficult. Qualifying for Europe means maybe seventh place — like last season — is possible, six, five, four.
It’s too early in the season to have an opinion on things about that. We like to enjoy football – that’s one of the best qualities, how we like to play, and then you will win a lot of games, we know.
Do you think Southampton can push for a place in the top four in the next few seasons?
