# Opposition preview: ReadSunderland

Southampton travel to Sunderland today and I spoke to [ReadSunderland](https://readsunderland.com/) writer [Chris Sparks](https://readsunderland.com/author/chrissparks/) to preview today’s game.

### How would you rate Sunderland’s start to the season?

> Poor, disappointing and unsurprising. The life of a Sunderland fan! A summer of optimism is quickly turned into a season of worry.

### Do you think ‘Big Sam’ can turn things around?

> I do but not without investment in January. Defensively Sunderland are so poor and they desperately need some reinforcements and young blood.

### Who are you fearing for Southampton coming into the game?

> A repeat of THAT GAME! Southampton are a very good side and if they are at the top of their game, they will easily pick the holes in the Sunderland defence.

### Who should Southampton be worried about?

> Steven Fletcher is in good form and has two goals in two games.

### Do you class Southampton in the same bracket as Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham?

> I would class them as good as Everton and Tottenham in recent seasons but they have a bit of work to do to attract the players that a club like Liverpool can.

### How do you think the game will pan out and what is your score prediction?

> A close and high scoring game with Sunderland edging it with the home advantage. SAFC 3-2 Southampton

I would like to thank Chris for taking the time to answer the questions and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season, after today, obviously!
