Opposition preview: ReadSunderland

Opposition preview: ReadSunderland

Southampton travel to Sunderland today and I spoke to ReadSunderland writer Chris Sparks to preview today’s game.

How would you rate Sunderland’s start to the season?

Poor, disappointing and unsurprising. The life of a Sunderland fan! A summer of optimism is quickly turned into a season of worry.

Do you think ‘Big Sam’ can turn things around?

I do but not without investment in January. Defensively Sunderland are so poor and they desperately need some reinforcements and young blood.

Who are you fearing for Southampton coming into the game?

A repeat of THAT GAME! Southampton are a very good side and if they are at the top of their game, they will easily pick the holes in the Sunderland defence.

Who should Southampton be worried about?

Steven Fletcher is in good form and has two goals in two games.

Do you class Southampton in the same bracket as Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham?

I would class them as good as Everton and Tottenham in recent seasons but they have a bit of work to do to attract the players that a club like Liverpool can.

How do you think the game will pan out and what is your score prediction?

A close and high scoring game with Sunderland edging it with the home advantage. SAFC 3-2 Southampton

I would like to thank Chris for taking the time to answer the questions and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season, after today, obviously!
