# Saints must keep consistency – Davis

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has said that Southampton must build on the momentum that has pushed them up to seventh in the league and have to keep a good level of consistency to stay there.

Southampton beat ‘rivals’ Bournemouth 2-0 yesterday in the Premier League to move from eighth to seventh and it was the Northern Irishman, Davis, who set the Saints on their way. Ryan Bertrand found space on the left of the box and he whipped the ball into a good area for Steven Davis to come in and side-foot the ball into the net on the volley.

Southampton went on to score a second from Graziano Pelle and then held on well in the second half to see off Bournemouth and claim all three points, as well as a clean sheet.

It means that Southampton have lost just one game, to Manchester United, since August and Davis believes that Southampton are close to how good they were last season.

> I think we were all frustrated with the start of the season.

> We maybe struggled to get that consistency, which we’d shown in the previous season, but I think we’re getting back now to the level which we know we can play at.

> It’s obviously about trying to put that into 90 minutes across the full game and there’s things we can improve on from today as well and I think we’re starting to get that momentum and it’s important we build upon it now.

Davis was delighted that Saints managed to hold on, despite their shaky second half showing.

> Delighted with the first half. I thought we played really well.

> It was an enjoyable game, we expected a reaction from them and they gave it in the second half, but I think we were a little bit disappointed as well.

> We think we could have done a little bit better in possession, but there’s positives to take from the second half as well, in the fact that we defended well and limited them in terms of chances, but I think there’s room for improvement as well.

> It’s something we’ve got to look at obviously and try to improve on.

> It was maybe going to be hard to reach the levels of the first half over the course of the full game, but that’s what we’ve got to try to aim for.

> But overall you’ve got to be delighted that we kept a clean sheet and came away with the three points.

> It’s always nice to play a local team and get the right result, so hopefully the fans will be happy with that one, the players can be happy and hopefully we can now start to build a bit of momentum and consistency in our game.
