Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez is reportedly a target for Serie A side Lazio.
His contract runs out next summer and Saints manager Ronald Koeman would rather sell him in January and get a fee for him, rather than let him run down his contract and then leave the club on a free transfer.
Ramirez has featured in two of Southampton’s last three games. He came off the bench to get an assist for Sadio Mane’s goal against Liverpool. He then got another assist as he set up Maya Yoshida for a goal against Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup just a few days later.
Ronald Koeman did then hint to the possibility of Ramirez earning a new contract at Southampton but it does seem inevitable that the Uruguayan, who was once Southampton’s record signing, will leave the club.
Ramirez made his name in Serie A with Bologna and a move back to Italy with Lazio could be just the move the 25-year-old needs to get his career back on track.
