# Fonte injury not serious – Koeman

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has [said](https://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20151102-koeman-fonte-post-southampton-bournemouth-2778154.aspx) that the injury to captain Jose Fonte is not as bad as some may have feared when they saw the skipper taken off at half-time in Southampton’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth.

Fonte was replaced by Maya Yoshida at the interval with Saints already 2-0 up and Southampton held on well to claim all three points, despite not having their captain for the second half.

However, Koeman has been quick to claim it was precautionary and that he is very hopeful of having Jose Fonte back fit and ready to come back into the side when Southampton travel away to The Stadium Of Light to face a struggling Sunderland side.

> José had some hamstring problems and it was not the moment to take that risk to continue and I hope because we changed in half-time José that he can be fit for the next weekend.

Koeman also lamented the red card that was given to Victor Wanyama, who will miss the game against Sunderland, but was accept-full of the decision.

Wanyama was sent off for a booking in each half as Southampton have their second player sent off in two Premier League games.

Speaking after the game, Koeman said this:

> You know if you have already a yellow if you take a tackle or a sliding then you put some risk in that tackle and if you touch the player it’s a yellow.

> I don’t know, I have to watch the clip back, because maybe he has to do it, but I think in some situations you don’t take that risk if you get already a yellow in the game, but ok, that’s part of football.

> Yeah, we know if one can’t play next weekend we have very good competition and it’s always a difficult decision to put the first eleven on the board and we have good players to play on that position of Victor.
