# Southampton draw Liverpool in the quarter-finals

Southampton have drawn Liverpool in the Capital One Cup quarter-final’s.

Southampton beat Aston Villa 2-1 tonight to secure their place in the last eight thanks to goals from defender Maya Yoshida and forward Graziano Pelle.

Maya Yoshida gave Southampton the lead with a fantastic long-range strike before Graziano Pelle superbly volleyed home from a delightful Dusan Tadic clipped assist.

Aston Villa pulled one back late on as Virgil Van Dijk was adjudged to have fouled the Villa player in the box and Scott Sinclair clinically fired the ball into the net in the 94th minute, only a consolation for Villa as caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald loses his first game as interim boss.

Southampton were beaten at the quarter-final stage last year by Sheffield United and will be hoping that it is different this season as they look to book their place in the semifinals’ of the cup, which would be a two-legged affair spread across January.

Ties to be played week commencing 30th Novemeber.
