Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has ruled out both Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez from Southampton’s clash with Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.
Both missed the weekend game with Liverpool, which Southampton came away with a point from, and Koeman has confirmed that Wednesday night will come too soon for the forward duo.
Shane Long has been missing since the international break, having gathered a knee injury whilst playing for The Republic of Ireland against Poland. This was just a few days after he scored the memorable winner against Germany. Jay Rodriguez however, has been carrying a knock recently and missed the clash with Liverpool along with Shane Long.

Ronald Koeman does however hope to have both Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez in contention for a place in the squad when the Saints face newly promoted Bournemouth next weekend.
Speaking in the build-up to tomorrow nights game, Koeman said this:
I have a good hope that they will be back for the weekend.
Next Wednesday is still too fast for them, but we need them. We need that competition.
