# Fonte happy with Southampton set-piece threat

Southampton captain Jose Fonte has expressed his [delight](https://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20151026-jose-fonte-post-liverpool-southampton-2766112.aspx) at how many goals his team are scoring from set pieces, describing their threat from dead-ball situations as “very dangerous”.

Southampton bagged yet another goal from a set piece on Sunday as Sadio Mane managed to push the ball over the line after a series of headers in the Liverpool penalty area from a James Ward-Prowse curling free-kick in the 86th minute.

Fonte, 31, has also benefitted from Southampton’s new and improved threat at set-pieces this season after scoring his first league goal this season for The Saints in their 2-2 draw against Leicester; the day after he penned a new contract extension taking the skipper through to 2018.

“Again, set pieces are at the moment massive for us and we showed again that we are very dangerous,” Fonte informed reporters after Southampton’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

“We have people who want to attack, who want to score goals and the last few games we have been very dangerous on these and we got some good goals and we’re happy with that,” Fonte added.

Fonte was happy with an away point at Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, however he expressed his dissatisfaction with the manner in which his Southampton team played: “We’re not really happy with the performance in terms of creating chances, in terms of being fluid up front, playing good football, we’ll look to improve.”

Just how crucial is Jose Fonte to Southampton this season?
