Pelle happy with Southampton progress

Southampton forward Graziano Pelle has spoken of his delight at Southampton’s improved performances as of late after a slightly worrying start to their 2015/16 campaign.

After the usual outgoings at the club, as well as added speculation around key players such as Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane, Southampton showed that they were struggling by turning out poor performances in games which they could have easily won. For example, the 2-2 draw at Newcastle and the quite dreadful 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Everton. However, with more confidence and fitness, as well as the defence being tightened up by the arrival of Virgil van Dijk and the return of Ryan Bertrand; Southampton are being able to stop the goals going in one end, as well as bang them in the other end.

Pelle, speaking to Sky Sports News said: “We are improving a lot, we are doing better than at the start of the season. It’s always difficult then with the transfer market and rumours. We are settled now, we have a great team and a great bench.”

When speaking about Southampton’s reinvented playing style this season, the 30-year-old said: “We work hard, it’s never easy to be in the first 11. I’m happy with the progression of the team, but it’s just the beginning. The way we are playing as Southampton is a sparkling way to play football, it is very attacking with beautiful combinations.”

However, not only has Pelle seen the change in the team around him, but also he has observed the change in his way of playing also. Talking to BBC Radio Solent, Pelle explained: “This year I am more concrete, more focused. I was also last year towards the end scoring goals and I was always confident in myself, but second season I’m possibly more part of the balance, but it’s still too early. “

Graziano Pelle scored 12 Premier League goals last season and already has five to his name in this domestic campaign.
