# United must cough up 40m to sign prize asset Mane

Southampton warned Manchester United that they will [need](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/sadio-mane-to-manchester-united-southampton-asking-40m-for-impressive-forward-a6707301.html) to cough up at least double what they offered in the summer to prize away star player, Sadio Mane.

Near the back-end of the transfer window, Manchester United expressed their interests in Sadio Mane, and it was reported that an enquiry had been made for the Senegalese forward, although Southampton did deny this claim for the club.

The 23-year-old attacker has scored 2 goals for The Saints, as well as setting up 4 for his team-mates in the Premier League this season. Since the turn of the year, Mane has had an absolutely excellent 10 months, being the key source of success for Southampton with important goals left, right and centre; winning points almost single-handedly for Ronald Koeman’s men.

However, with good performances come added interest from other clubs, and some being the financial heavyweights of football; Manchester United in particular.

The Saints have informed The Red Devils that if they are to sign Mane, they must offer at least £40 million for the Senegal international, breaking the record for the most expensive African footballer to date and in prospect, Southampton’s most expensive sale of a player.

If the price is met, it will no doubt be hard for The Saints to prevent the deal from happening as £40 million is an astronomical amount of money to receive, however; do Southampton really want to sell their prize asset to another Premier League club, or if not, at all?
