# Summer target Koulibaly backed for new contract at Napoli

Southampton linked defender; Kalidou Koulibaly’s [future](https://talksport.com/football/agent-wants-southampton-and-norwich-target-kalidou-koulibaly-remain-napoli-151020171255) has been the subject of discussion for his agent in the recent days, amid rumours of reignited interest from Southampton and Norwich.

The powerful French centre back was linked with the Premier League pair last summer, but opted to stay at Napoli much to the delight of his agent, Bruno Satin.

Satin has urged Koulibaly’s current club, Napoli to offer the 24-year-old a new and improved contract at the Italian giants after it is expected that interest from other clubs will come about in January and beyond for the defender’s services.

“Koulibaly is still young,” Satin told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. “In the summer there was the possibility of leaving, but the lad chose to stay because he wanted to prove himself at Napoli, which he’s doing.”

Satin added: “The future? There could be offers, but the Neapolitans are capable of giving him an important contract to tie the player down.”

Southampton identified Koulibaly as a target in the summer, but chose to hold out for Virgil Van Dijk, who has had an impressive start to life in the Premier League.

Are you happy with Southampton’s centre back options, or would you go back in for Koulibaly?
