Koeman gives update on injuries ahead of Leicester clash

In his pre-match press conference, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has given his update on the current injuries and availabilities of the players in his squad.

The only player that everyone was certain would miss the game was Fraser Forster, who is still missing with a knee injury that could even see him miss the rest of the season. However, Jordy Clasie and Shane Long were players that the fans were still unsure of regarding their fitness coming into the match.

Ronald Koeman did confirm that Irish forward Shane Long will miss the game. He confirmed that the injury he collected whilst on international duty against Poland will rule the forward out for the next two to four weeks.

Koeman did provide one piece of positive news on the injury front as he hinted towards Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie being ready to play against Leicester on Saturday. Clasie has featured just once for Saints so far, in the Europa League, a game which he was injured in.

Speaking in the build-up to the game, Koeman said this:

I’m very pleased (that Jordy is back), because we like to have everybody available. The Shane injury is a disappointment. It’s an ankle ligament injury and he will be out for two to four weeks. That’s a disappointment, but the rest of the players are happy to be back.

Koeman also spoke of the difficult decisions that he has to make as Saints boss:

It makes more possibilities for the manager. Sometimes it’s more difficult because you have to make decisions. The first decision is on the first 11, then the substitutes.Little by little we have to make big decisions to leave people out of the 18 on the list for the game. Jordy is back and he had 60 minutes in a friendly against Ajax. He’s really back on his level and can be important from Saturday onwards.

Southampton face Leicester at St.Mary’s Saturday hoping to record their 5th win in seven games.
