According to reports, Southampton and Ireland forward Shane Long’s injury is not as bad as first feared and that he will only miss a few weeks before he is back in action.
Long was stretchered off during Ireland’s crucial qualifier against Poland, which they lost 2-1, and some were fearing that the injury could have kept him out for a number of months.
It comes as fantastic news to Ireland as they have their European Championship play-off tie next month. Their opponents will be announced on Sunday and Shane Long looks as though he will be a part of the squad that will go and try to secure their place in France next summer.
It will also come as good news to Ronald Koeman, who may have been thinking of giving Shane Long a chance at Southampton following his winning goal for Ireland in their memorable win over Germany last week.
