Speaking to Talksport, former Dutch international and current Ajax boss Ronald de Boer has said that Saints manager Ronald Koeman would rather take another Premier League job than manage the Dutch national side.
De Boer said: “There are no real contenders for this job [the Netherlands’ role]. Koeman is very happy with Southampton, and his next job will maybe be an even bigger team in England.”
This comes after the Netherlands failed to qualify for Euro 2016 after a disastrous campaign that was perfectly summed up by a Robin Van-Persie own goal that gave the Czech Republic the win.
Guus Hiddink left the role early on in the campaign, being replaced by Danny Blind. However, after failing to lead the Dutch team who finished 4th at the World Cup to the European Championships his job has come under threat, and many consider Koeman the right man for the job.
However, it seems that Koeman won’t be departing St Mary’s anytime soon, much to the relief of Saints fans everywhere.
