# Stekelenburg Called into Dutch Squad

Southampton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has been [called up](https://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20151011-maarten-stekelenburg-netherlands-czech-republic-2739033.aspx) to the Netherlands squad as they prepare to face the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening.

Injuries to both Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen and Newcastle’s Tim Krul have left Dutch manager Danny Blind’s squad short of goalkeeping cover, hence the call up for Stekelenburg.

PSV Eindhoven’s Jeroen Zoet replaced Krul as the Netherlands defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 at the weekend, and he is likely to start the crucial game with the Czech Republic, meaning Stekelenburg will likely be on the bench.

This is the first time that Stekelenburg has been involved with the Dutch squad for around three years, his last call up came in October 2012, so he’ll be eager to make a good impression when he joins up.

Since arriving on loan from Championship side Fulham, Stekelenburg has played every game for Southampton, and been part of the Saints side’s that have won their last three consecutive games in all competitions.
