# Southampton resigned to Mane departure

Southampton have [accepted](https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/manchester-united-transfer-news-southampton-resigned-departure-sadio-mane-1522961)that star striker Sadio Mane will probably be leaving the club in the near future. This comes as Chairman Ralph Krueger conceded that the Saints are not quite in the top-tier of Premier League clubs yet, and therefore there best players will continue to be poached by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

> Krueger told the Leaders in the Sport Business Summit “I believe that things are going to happen for a reason and at the moment \[Mane\] is very, very strong for us and the goal over time is this is the final destination,”

> “Maybe it isn’t for players but we’re moving towards that and we still understand where we sit in the whole balance of English football and we respect that.”

> “We’re working hard at every level to ensure we are the final destination but we have to earn that.”

Southampton has seen a meteoric rise of sorts in English football. The Saints were promoted from League 1 as recent as the 2010-11 season, and now found themselves in the top half of the Premier League, with manager Ronald Koeman leading the club to a Europa League position.

The upwards trajectory of the side has not prevented big names leaving St. Marys, with players like Luke Shaw, Morgan Schneiderlin, Calum Chambers, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all departing for Premier League clubs.

Mane could be next on the list as Manchester United believed to be interested in bringing Senegal international to Old Trafford.

Krueger also spoke about the potential plan if current Saints manager Ronald Koeman leaves. The Dutchman was most recently linked with the Liverpool job, which has now been taken by Jurgen Klopp as of yesterday.

> Krueger said “There is no point focusing on that \[if Koeman wants to leave\],” he added. “You are always preparing yourself for any possible scenario.

> “I am not the sort of person who focuses on potential situations, when they arise we deal with them confidently, swiftly and we find solutions but that is not even an issue right now.”

> “I believe that every single business situation that is solid would understand that there has to be potential options. That crystallises by itself. When Mauricio left we had a list, we put it together calmly there is no rush but that is not going to happen right now.”
