Celtic legend Frank McAvennie has warned Virgil van Dijk that he should not be disrespectful to his former club after the Southampton centre half claimed that he had learned more in 5 games of the Premier League than he did in years at Celtic.

McAvennie told the Daily Record: “I can’t believe he’s having a go at Celtic and Scottish football when he’s only been five minutes in the job. It’s wrong to bite the hand that’s been feeding you for the last two years.
“His words makes it sound like he was too good for Scottish football and Celtic were holding him back – when the reality is he was caught out a few times, even in domestic games.
“So for him to be only five games into it down south and telling us how good he’s become says a lot about him,” McAvennie continued.
“Let’s see how he gets on against the likes of Aguero and we’ll see how much he has learned.”
It seems to me that Frank McAvennie is bitter about Van Dijk’s comments because one of Celtic’s best centre backs in the last year has moved on to bigger things.
