# Ryan Bertrand returns to the England squad

It yesterday emerged that Southampton left back Ryan Bertrand had been named as part of the 23-man-squad for England’s Euro 2016 Qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania.

The 26-year-old has featured just twice this season due to being out of action with knee injuries, but he has not looked out-of-place in the games against MK Dons and Swansea, with his natural fitness returning to him in good time.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was slightly surprised at how quickly Bertrand has been brought back into the England side, but said: “Of course it’s very fast after the first time playing 90 minutes but I was also surprised about the level what Ryan already bring last week.”

The Dutchman added: “We know if Ryan is back and playing on his level then he’s one of the national team and that’s good because it’s good for the player, the confidence of the player and it’s good for Southampton.”

Bertrand will be hoping he can cement a place in the England side following the long-term injury to first-choice left-back Luke Shaw, who broke his leg in two places playing for club side Manchester United.

He is likely to go into the qualifiers as Hodgson’s first-choice left-back and will be sure to put in a stellar performance for England, as he does on a regular basis for Southampton, which, is why he was called up.
