# Big offer for Dutch defender Van Dijk

Reports early this morning from the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-set-make-115million-virgil-6348457) are saying that Southampton have tabled an offer of £11.5m for Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk.

This comes after both sides were knocked out of their respective European competitions in midweek. Celtic now being out of the Champions League and Southampton being knocked out of the Europa League.

Celtic have already signed English central defender Tyler Blackett on a season long loan from Manchester United as a replacement for Van Dijk, who seems almost certain to leave the Scottish champions before deadline day.

The [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-set-make-115million-virgil-6348457) are also reporting that this offer of £11.5m will be enough to sway Celtic into selling their prized asset. Celtic have been battling all summer to try and keep the Dutchman, however, it looks like Saints persistence has paid off as they look to finally have got their man on what will reportedly be a four year deal.

The 24 year old is yet to make an appearance for the Holland senior side but will be hoping that if he is able to get a Premier League move then he will be able to force his way into the Dutch set-up with the European Championships in France coming up next summer. The Premier League will be a much better platform to showcase his talent for the Dutch manager than playing in the Scottish Premier League.
