# Clyne Gives Saints Fresh Hope On New Deal

Nathaniel Clyne has given Southampton fresh hope over his future after revealing that he would be happy to stay on the South Coast.

The England international shed new light on his current contract situation, giving Saints fans new optimism that he may still remain at the club despite interest from Louis van Gaal and Manchester United.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Clyne said: “*I’m enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it’s an up-and-coming club, so, yeah, I’m happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well.*”

The Saints defender had been given a 10 day deadline by boss Ronald Koeman to let the club know where his future lies but the 24 year-old said he is simply concentrating on his football and making it into Europe.

*“My agent is negotiating, so I’ll just leave it with my agent and I’m just going to concentrate on playing my football.”*

*“We need to try and secure a fifth or sixth spot to try and get into Europa, because nothing’s guaranteed finishing seventh.”*

“*Leicester are going to come at us just the way Sunderland did and hopefully we’ll be more mentally prepared and more physically prepared and up for the battle.*”

The player still has a year left on his current deal but the Saints will be desperate to sort the deal out as soon as possible as potential suitors will only be encouraged by any uncertainty surrounding a new contract.

Clyne has been part of a Southampton back four that is second only to Chelsea in the number of clean sheets and goals conceded; while also chipping with a respectable two goals from full back.

This comes in a campaign which has seen his breakthrough into the full England national team has he has begun to make Roy Hodgson’s right back spot his own.
