Mark Hughes has been backed by the progressive support from the Southampton squad, according to the Telegraph.
Hughes is only contracted to Saints until the end of the season, having signed a deal on an interim basis. However, it appears as though a number of the players in his squad have backed him to continue as the club’s manager for the foreseeable future.
The Welshman was appointed by the club’s board after the decision to sack Mauricio Pellegrino was taken in March, following a 3-0 away defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.

Hughes has since made a difference to proceedings at Southampton, helping the team to play with greater freedom and aiding them in their bid to avoid the drop down to the Championship.
Saints are currently sat in 17th place and outside of the relegation zone based only on goal difference. On Tuesday, they face a crunch clash at the bottom of the table as they face Swansea City, who are level on points with them.
It’s stated in the report that Hughes has instilled a more focused mentality in first-team training, whilst also implementing more intense procedures for the squad to follow ahead of important matches.
