Southampton have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Max Meyer from Schalke, according to Bild.
The German international, who is out of contract this summer, was offered to the Saints when it became clear he would leave the Bundesliga side.
Meyer, who has often been touted as a target for Arsenal and Liverpool in the past, could have joined Southampton for just under £9 million the report claims.

After falling out with club officials Meyer has expressed his desire to leave Schalke, despite an impressive season under Domenico Todesco.
Meyer is expected to leave the club this summer and has reportedly refused to meet with those behind the seasons to discuss his future.
Southampton are struggling near the bottom of the Premier League, with top-flight football not guaranteed for the Saints next season.
The Saints know that they need to take points off Swansea to be in with a chance of maintaining their Premier League status this season.
