Following his side’s late draw at Everton on Saturday evening, Southampton boss Mark Hughes has lambasted the performance of referee Jon Moss and the linesmen at Goodison Park.
Hughes addressed the media after the score draw on Merseyside and, as quoted by the Independent, didn’t mince his words when lamenting Moss’ refereeing performance.
Unfortunately, the officials towards the end of the game haven’t covered themselves in glory if we are honest.
Everton equalised in the 96th minute as Tom Davies’ effort ricocheted off Wesley Hoedt and beyond Alex McCarthy. This late equaliser cancelled out Nathan Redmond’s goal early on in the second-half.
Hughes’ frustrations stemmed from Moss’ decision to allow play to continue for significantly longer than the allocated minimum of four minutes of additional time, with Davies netting beyond this time slot.

Also, in the build-up to Everton’s goal, Redmond was judged to have committed a foul deep into the Toffees’ half in front of the linesman, who did not flag for a foul in the first place.
Nathan Redmond is in the corner and has done a fantastic job to nick the ball off the toes of their centre-half. The assistant referee is about two or three yards away and clearly sees it isn’t a foul but Jon Moss, as he usually is, about 30 yards behind play, decided to give a free-kick.
To compound that situation he allows them to take it from the wrong position, 10 to 15 yards ahead, and at that point we are still arguing about whether it should have been a free run on goal for ourselves.
Hughes and Saints evidently feel aggrieved to have only come away with a point to show for their efforts at Goodison Park.
The Saints boss was asked if he’d since spoken to Moss to gain further clarity over the thinking behind his decisions during the game. Hughes responded rather swiftly:
What’s the point? He’s probably getting his breath back.
