Southampton secured their place in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday as they saw off League One side Wigan in the quarter-final.
The Saints scored two second half goals, and missed a penalty, as they recovered from a poor first half showing.
Wigan dominated the first 45 and created a number of clear-cut chances in front of goal, but were unable to convert.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cedric Soares both scored their first goals for Southampton, to secure the progression to the next round.
Manolo Gabbiadini saw his penalty saved by Walton, after he was taken down by Dan Burn in the box.
Mark Hughes will be happy with a clean sheet and two goals in his first game in charge.
Alex McCarthy had little trouble in terms of shots, but had to turn aside a few corners and claimed several crosses into the box.
Here is how we rated the Saints after the game…
Alex McCarthy: 7
Dominated the 18-yard box and made some excellent decisions from corners. Was solid.
Cedric Soares: 7
Scored his first goal for the club and was sound defensively.
Jack Stephens: 7
Won some important headers, but did misjudge a few balls over the top.
Wesley Hoedt: 8
Dominant performance from the Dutchman. Won everything in the air and was a rock at the back.
Ryan Bertrand: 7
Worked hard down the left and put in a few excellent deliveries. Defended well, as well.
Mario Lemina: 7
Used the ball well in midfield and looked to drive Saints forward.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 8
His goal typified his performance; worked his socks off to get to the ball and had the determination to win it. He was excellent.
Dusan Tadic: 6
Played some good passes and held onto the ball well, but could have done more in the final third.
Sofiane Boufal: 5
Wasn’t his day. Nothing he tried came off.
Manolo Gabbiadini: 6
Despite missing a penalty and a one-on-one, Gabbiadini didn’t play badly. His movement was superb and he worked hard for the team.
Guido Carrillo: 4
Offered very little up front for Southampton. Was bullied by League One Wigan’s centre backs and his first touch was awful.
Subs:
Nathan Redmond: 7
Shane Long: 6
Oriol Romeu: N/A
