According to reports in Italy, Southampton have made contact with Sinisa Mihajlovic regarding their vacant managerial post.

The boss has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Torino at the start of the calendar year. He has previously been the manager of clubs such as Fiorentina and AC Milan and has spent the large portion of his career as a manager in Italy.

However, according to Sport Italia, via Football Italia, Saints have made contact with Mihajlovic as they aim to gauge the 49-year-old’s interest in potentially taking over.

Mark Hughes, who was sacked by Stoke earlier this season, remains the front-runner for the Saints job and it is stated in the report that Mihajlovic is generally regarded as a backup option to the Welshman.

Saints sacked Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday evening and are hoping to have a new man in before they take the trip to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday.
