Southampton are not considering ex-West Ham manager Slaven Bilic for the vacant manager’s position at the club.

The Saints announced on Monday that Mauricio Pellegrino had been sacked, following the club’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.

The club are dangerously close to the relegation zone and are now looking to make an appointment as soon as possible in an attempt to survive the drop.

According to Sky Sports, Mark Hughes is favourite for the job, whilst Marco Silva is also a contender.

The report also claims that Bilic is not being considered, despite him being interested in the job.

Bilic has been out of a job since he was sacked by West Ham, and replaced by David Moyes, earlier this season.

Mark Hughes was sacked by Stoke this season, who also look set to be relegated from the Premier League.

The Saints want to announce their new manager before their next match – against Wigan in the FA Cup.
