Southampton are still reportedly holding an interest in Leeds United central defender Pontus Jansson.
It’s claimed by Swedish news outlet Fotbollskanalen that Saints are still keen on landing Jansson as they weigh up alternative options to replace Virgil van Dijk at the club.
Saints were heavily linked with a move for the Sweden international in the summer but the defender had already committed to making his loan move from Torino to Leeds a permanent deal.

However, some months on, Fotbollskanalen claim that Saints are interested in the Leeds man once again and could make a January move for the player.
Although, it seems a move to the south coast is unlikely for the towering central defender. Jansson’s agent Martin Dahlin told the Swedish outlet that his client has no intention of departing Elland Road midway through the season and that he is focused on helping Leeds back into the Premier League.
There is great interest in Pontus, but he is fully focused on taking Leeds up to the Premier League. Otherwise, I have no comments about this.
A move for Jansson appears to be nothing more than an idea for Saints at this stage, but it seems they are admirers of the defender.
