Southampton cruelly had three points taken from them when Oliver Giroud rescued a point for Arsenal after a dominant performance.
The Saints will rue the chances they missed in both halves after taking the lead in just the third minute, when the vision of Dusan Tadic exploited a mistake in the Arsenal defence to set Charlie Austin away to bag his 5th goal of the season.
With a busy and hectic festive period now upon us, Southampton desperately have to pick up more wins, with only one in their last seven.
Despite wasting many chances, there were so many standout Saints but I have whittled it down to the three most impressive performers.
Bertrand had an exceptional game against the Gunners at the weekend. With brilliant recovery challenges, defensive work and finding space, he performed well. Bertrand arguably had the best chance of the second half and was desperately unlucky not to score.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has come in again and put in another flawless performance. The Danish international had an exceptional pass accuracy rate and had the most touches on the ball out of all the players. In his his current form, it would be very harsh to drop him against Leicester.
Austin is bang in form at the moment. He scored a brilliant goal and was denied by an excellent save by Petr Cech. Austin’s form and goals are going to be vital for Saints in the upcoming weeks.
