Southampton are interested in promising Reading goalkeeper Lewis Ward, according to a report from Pete O’Rourke for Football Insider.
The youngster is currently out on loan with Aldershot and has been in impressive form since making the step down the divisions.
Ward has been Aldershot’s starting goalkeeper since his arrival at the National League outfit in November and has helped them keep four clean sheets in their last five outings.
It’s claimed in the report that Saints, among other Premier League clubs, have been keeping a close eye on Ward and his progress of late, sending scouts out to monitor his progress.
Ward had been a mainstay for Reading’s Under-23 side prior to his loan and is understood to be held in high esteem at the club.
However, Ward’s deal at the Madjeski Stadium expires at the end of the season, meaning that it’d only take a compensation fee to sign him in the summer, should he opt to seek pastures new.
Southampton are claimed to be joined by Stoke and Everton in the race to land Ward.
