Southampton to battle Brighton for Mitrovic
Southampton are set to battle Brighton to the signing of Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
According to Serbian outlet Mondo, via TalkSport, Southampton are interested in the centre forward and could be set to make a move in January.
The club have struggled for goals in the Premier League this season. Mauricio Pellegrino’s men have scored nine times in 11 matches.
Manolo Gabbiadini has three, but the club appears to be eyeing up more striking talent to bolster their squad.
Charlie Austin and Shane Long have both featured at times – with one goal between them – and one of them could be sacrificed to bring Mitrovic in.
Mitrovic is out of the picture at Newcastle, which has opened the door for a potential exit.
The Serbian international has scored 17 goals in 68 games for Newcastle since joining the club in 2015.
He has also scored 11 goals in 33 games for his country.
