Southampton slumped to 13th place following their 1-0 home defeat to Burnley this weekend.

Sam Vokes’ well-taken header off the bench was enough for the Clarets to come away with an important away win, with them now sat in 7th place on the Premier League table.

Southampton were uninspiring once again, and are in a hugely worrying spell of form.

There were few standout performers for the Saints on Saturday, but the best of a bad bunch, for us, was Virgil van Dijk.

Since returning to the fold, the Dutchman has been gradually improving, and his work rate can’t really be faulted at this stage.

He’s putting in some astute defensive displays, demonstrating physical presence, aerial dominance and his characteristic confidence while in possession.

Van Dijk wasn’t at his best, but stood out in another awful defeat for Saints.

It’s sure to be an interesting occasion when Van Dijk lines up for Saints against Liverpool after the international break, and he’ll be keen to continue his promising form.
