Atletico Madrid striker and Southampton target Luciano Vietto has confirmed he received offers to leave Los Rojiblancos this summer.
Speaking in Mundo Deportivo, Vietto confirmed he could have left but wanted to remain in Madrid to fight for his place under Diego Simeone.
Yes I did [have offers], but the idea of the club was not to loan me either. For one thing or another did not finish making the exit and finally the coaching staff decided to stay, so very happy about how everything has gone.
Southampton were linked with a move for the Argentinian striker as they went in search of extra firepower in their attack with Atletico ready to sell the player.
With deals in place for both Diego Costa and Vitolo to join in January, Atletico were in a position where they needed to sell players to balance the books.
Vietto had already fallen out of favour having spent last season on loan at Sevilla.
Despite the arrival of Costa and Vitolo in January, Vietto wants to stay with Atletico and fight for his place at the club.
Yes, surely my name will ring again, but hey, I’m going to keep working and trying my best to convince him again and stay, I do not have to leave.
