Southampton captain Steven Davis has warned Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United that the Saints will be prepared for battle at the St Mary’s stadium on Saturday and are aiming to inflict a first league defeat of the season on the Red Devils, according to a report on the Daily Echo.

Davis scored in Southampton’s last league fixture against Crystal Palace and his strike in his 200th appearance for the club was enough to earn the three points.

United have been in sparkling form and are undefeated in the league, scoring 14 goals and conceding only two.

But Davis warned the Red Devils.

He said:

We’re always going in to these games trying to win. It doesn’t always work out like that, but we’re trying to win. We want some big scalps this season, we’ve managed to do that in previous seasons and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again.

The 32-year-old midfielder also believes that the sell-out home crowd will have a huge role to play if they are to defeat United.

It’s great if you can create that hostile atmosphere. It gives the home team such a backing as well, and really pushes them on.

The rallying cry from Davis is likely to spark the home fans, who will respond to their captain’s wishes and create a very hostile atmosphere for the visiting players.

It’s going to be a hugely tough game. We’re not underestimating them but we also believe we can cause them problems.
