The Saints have made Clasie available for transfer as they look to move on the holding midfielder before the end of the window, in just over a week’s time.
Southampton completed the club-record signing of Mario Lemina earlier this month, which could have been the catalyst for Clasie’s proposed exit.
Clasie was an unused substitute for both of Southampton’s opening Premier League fixtures, against Swansea and West Ham.
Oriol Romeu and Mario Lemina lined up in midfield against West Ham, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and James Ward-Prowse also seemingly ahead of Clasie in the pecking order.
Italian side Lazio have been linked with a loan move for Clasie earlier this summer, though it remains to be seen whether they will reignite their interest.
Southampton are currently in the process of dealing with Lazio, as they look set to sign Clasie’s compatriot Wesley Hoedt for £15.4m.
