Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has given the latest team news ahead of his side’s Premier League opener against Swansea at St.Mary’s this weekend.

The Saints host Swansea on Saturday as their 2017/18 season gets underway in the top-flight, with Pellegrino taking charge of his first competitive match for the club.

Fans could also see debuts for the two summer signings, with Jan Bednarek and Mario Lemina in contention to play.

Lemina signed for Southampton in a club-record £18m move from Juventus earlier this week and Pellegrino says he could feature against the Swans.

Speaking to Southampton’s website, Pellegrino said this:

Physically he is good, because he has been training in Juventus, but we will decide between today and tomorrow if he will be part of the team.

Virgil Van Dijk will not be in the squad. He handed in a transfer request earlier this week and Pellegrino confirmed that he has not been training due to a ‘virus’.

Cedric Soares could also start, having joined pre-season late due to featuring in the Confederations Cup for Portugal over the summer.
