According to a report from Bild out in Germany, a €16m offer from Southampton was made in an attempt to sign Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner this summer.
The experienced striker has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit in recent times, with him feeling settled at Hoffenheim. It’s stated in the report that he is not keen to leave Germany and therefore was put off the prospect of joining Saints.
Wagner was impressive for Julian Nagelsmann’s side last term and helped them to enjoy a hugely successful campaign.
The 29-year-old also showed his quality for Germany in the Confederations Cup this summer, helping his country to secure yet another piece of silverware.
Wagner netted 12 times for Hoffenheim last season and also burst onto the German international scene, with Joachim Low giving him a chance to impress.
Saints were linked with Wagner last year but no move materialised.
